McDonnell named Nelson’s top citizen
Nelson citizen Bill McDonnell was named the city’s citizen of the year in the 47th year the award has been handed out.
The former Nelson Maple Leaf, teacher, hockey coach with the Nelson Junior B Leafs and organizer of KidSport in the city was also the man who lit the Olympic cauldron in 2010 when the torch came through the city.
McDonnell was accept the award at the Knights of Columbus banquet on April 9 at St. Joseph’s school.
