Irish Blog — Preparing for the big game

The L.V. Rogers Bombers are getting close to returning to Canada following a long rugby tour of Ireland.

The LVR team departed from Nelson almost two weeks ago. The Mighty Bombers opened the tour with a 27-5 win over the Balgriggan Rugby Club before being brought back down to earth with a 36-12 setback at the hands of Montevia — a team sprinkled with high-level players.

Next up is a game against North Munster Cadets.

LVR Vice Principal Frank Marisco has made the trip with coach Michael Joyce. He has graciously accepted the challenge of blogging the tour for The Nelson Daily.

Here’s Frank’s latest entry.

Today is our first full day off and everyone is pleased to have some “down time.”

The breakfast buffet gets a pass by several of the boys who figure a sleep-in is the way to go. Several others take my advice and sneak a bacon sandwich out the door for later in the day.

I gather up all of the dirty kit and drop it off at the local laundry mat — we need to be looking good for our game (Wednesday).

TJ comes along and actually drops off his own personal dirty clothing for a wash. I think he might the first and only kid on the trip who has done this.

With the end in sight, many of the boys head downtown to the Munster Rugby Shop and it is a brisk bit of business for a Tuesday morning.

The rest of the day is spent enjoying the sunshine and hanging around the pool and hot tub. The hotel is situated right on the beautiful Shannon River and it is only a five-minute walk to the local Spar (Ireland’s equivalent to the 7-11).

The flu bug has hit hard but the boys are recovering. Everyone is excited about tomorrow’s game against the North Munster Cadets.

Breakfast is set for 9:30 a.m. so they all get a little extra “sleep in” time.
