Heavy snow is affecting travel over Kootenay Pass and Paulson Summit, according to a weather alert released by Environment Canada Monday.

Areas of heavy snow over the highway passes of the West Kootenay have affected two local mountain passes, including Highway 3’s Allison Pass between Hope and Princeton, and the Highway 5 pass between Hope and Merritt.

A low pressure system is expected to continue to bring snow over the highway passes of the Interior, including the West Kotenay.

The Kootenay Pass received additional snowfall of nearly 20 centimetres Monday with another 15 cm. expected to fall overnight into Tuesday.
