It was a good news, bad news day for the two local teams from the West Kootenay at B.C. Hockey Minor Hockey Championship Tournaments.

The West Kootenay Wildcats, with three players — Jesse Cooper, Emma Hare and Jena Wheeldon — on the team, defeated Prince George 3-1 to claim the bronze medal at the Bantam Female Championships Wednesday in Kelowna.

West Kootenay lost 3-0 to North Shore Tuesday in semi final action.

Meanwhile, in Smithers, the Nelson Leafs saw two third period leads evaporate before their eyes to drop out of the running for the gold medal at the B.C. Hockey Tier III Bantam Rep Tournament.

The second collapse cost the Reps dearly as Terrace rallied from a 5-3 deficit to defeat Nelson 8-5 in semi final action Wednesday.

Nelson plays the loser of the Revelstoke/Quesnel contest for the bronze medal Thursday.

Earlier in the day Quesnel scored six third-period goals en route to a 10-5 doubling of the Leafs.

Nelson, 3-0 heading into Day four of the tournament, held leads of 4-2 and 5-3 before the northern reps exploded in the third period.

The bronze medal game goes at 8 a.m. Thursday.
