Cats Blog — Tough to end season, even after winning bronze

The West Kootenay Wildcats, based in Castlegar, finished third at the B.C. Hockey Female Bantam provincials in Kelowna.
Nelson Minor Hockey product Jesse Cooper, joined by two other Heritage City players — Emma Hare and Jena Wheeldon — agreed to blog the happenings of the Cats for The Nelson Daily.
The Wildcats opened with a 2-0 win over Kamloops in the eight-team tournament Sunday.
However, the Cats couldn’t keep the drive going losing in the semi final round Tuesday to North Shore 3-0.
West Kootenay concludes the tournament Wednesday by defeating Prince George 3-1 to claim the bronze medal.
Here’s the account of the Cats final day from winger Jesse Cooper.
The final game was a tough game but in the end we won 3-1.
Before the game most of the girls were sad as this would be our last game together as a team.
When (coach) Cary (Fisher) came in to talk to us he said, “You don’t have to play for your parents or us coaches, you have to play for your teammates.”
Lindsay Swanson scored two goals from the blue line and Steph Mcualey got a greasy goal of front of the net.
At the end the coaches left use in our room to say our goodbyes. Many tears were shed as some for some of the girls, that was there last game of hockey while also many of the second years would move up to midget.
All people no that teenage girls don’t always get along, but the West Kootenay wildcats did.
Never once were there arguments and no one was ever left out. Our team worked together and it showed in the way we played.
I would also like to give a shout out to our goalies Morgan Flynn and Lauren Biggz for all there amazing saves and keeping us in the game many of times.
It was a season I will never forget and it was an honor to play with these girls.
