The Nelson Bantam Leafs traveled to Smithers this week to represent the West Kootenay at the B.C. Hockey Bantam Rep Tier III Tournament.

The Reps got past Castlegar in a close series to advance to the provincial tournament.

During the tournament Rep defenceman Tyler Podgorenko will blog from the B.C. Interior to give The Nelson Daily readers an inside look at the team’s progress – which looks good as Nelson opened with two straight wins.

Today (Monday) we had to wake early once again but this time 1 hour earlier.

Thankfully the hotel owners got breakfast ready for us at 6:30 a.m. so we could get to the rink on time. After eating we then continued to walk down to the rink as a team.

After going through regular pre game rituals we hit the ice. The Dawson Creek squad came out hitting and fired up so we had to match their energy.

After the 1st period we lead 3-1 and had them in the place that we wanted them. As the game progressed we just kept coming in harder and harder and they began to back down.

With much scoring in the second the game was 6-2. Knowing that we couldn’t let up drove us further and the game ended up a whopping 10-2.

With a much better team effort our hard work really paid off. After the game we then went to Boston pizza for a team lunch.

Once full and fed we now are going to head down to the local school so we can hang out and rest as a team.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) we face off against the Ridge Meadows squad and should be a rough one.
