The Nelson Bantam Leafs is off to an amazing 3-0 start at the B.C. Hockey Bantam Rep Tier III Tournament in Smithers.

The Reps followed up wins over Smithers and Dawson Creek with an 8-3 pounding of Ridge Meadows Tuesday.

During the tournament Rep defenceman Tyler Podgorenko will blog from the B.C. Interior to give The Nelson Daily readers an inside look at the team’s progress – which at this stage of the tournament is looking very good.

Wednesday, the Reps meet Quesnel (2-1) in the battle for first in the pool.

Finally getting to sleep in for a change was nice.

We got to sleep in today till 8 a.m. for our game was at 10:30 a.m. Like usual we ate at our continental breakfast in our hotel, and walked the same rout we had the days before.

We struggled at the start of the game from the lack of focus and preparation before.  Thankfully our goaltender Brayden Pompu was strong enough to hold us up and by the 10-minute mark we were back in it and going hard.

Jumping on our opportunities we managed to get a 3-1 lead on the Ridge Meadows team and momentum on our side.

We kept going hard and as a team kept improving and building on our lead and gaining the confidence we needed, and that gave us the whopping 7-1 lead on the opposing team.

After many rough plays and also many penalties we had an 8-1 lead.

However, with game was narrowing down on the five-minute mark, we lost our game and they came back with two unanswered goals.

Having a not so good of a start, a good second period and a bad last five minutes, we still managed to tough it out and take the win 8-3.

After the game we all headed our separate directions as we had some time to ourselves.

The coaches & parents on our team have been great as to the great organization of the activities and team lunches and dinners that we have had this week.

Tonight our team will be hitting the ally ways for some team bowling for some fun and good times.
