It’s a long drive, but the Nelson Leafs are not letting a few road miles come between them and a provincial championship as the Heritage City squad begins quest for the B.C. Hockey Tier III Bantam Rep Championship Sunday in Smithers.

The Reps open against the ten-team tournament Sunday against the host Smithers club at 9:30 a.m.

Monday Nelson meets Dawson Creek in Day two’s opener at 8 a.m. before facing high powers Ridge Meadows Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.

The Reps conclude the round robin part of the tournament Wednesday against Quesnel at 8 a.m.

Tri Port, Terrace, Whistler, Whitehorse and Revelstoke play in the other pool.

The top four teams advance to Wednesday’s playoff round, with the second-place squad in pool A meeting the first-place team in pool B in one semi final. The winner of pool A battles number two in pool B.

The two winners play for the provincial title Thursday.

The Nelson Daily readers will be able to follow the Bantam Leafs every step of the road as Nelson defenceman Tyler Podgorenko will writer a daily Blog from Smithers.
