Workers at Kootenay Savings Credit Union to go on strike
Workers at Kootenay Savings Credit Union have voted to go on strike.
People from the credit union branches in the West Kootenay region — including the South Slocan branch — will be walking off the job this week as the union members have voted in favour of a strike after contract negotiations broke down yesterday.
Pension plan changes are needed, the United Steelworkers Union local for the workers said, with increasing the retirement age and the level of contributions at issue.
The credit union has said it was, in fact, the employee’s pension plan that made the changes, not Kootenay Savings.
