A strike is looming for the workers of Kootenay Savings Credit Union branches in the West Kootenay region as the union members have voted to strike if necessary.

Pension plan changes are needed, the United Steelworkers Union local for the workers said, with increasing the retirement age and the level of contributions at issue.

The credit union has said it was, in fact, the employee’s pension plan that made the changes, not Kootenay Savings.

The two groups are expected to get together on Feb. 1 for a meeting.
