The full moon ski in the Slocan Valley
It’s been an active winter for the Slocan Valley Heritage Trail Society (SVHTS).
This group of busy volunteers has been spending long hours keeping the 50-kilometre long Slocan Valley Rail Trail groomed and trackset. Over the holiday season, hundreds of people could be found out enjoying one of the scenic wonders of the Slocan Valley.
The Society also has a great new website which gives updates on the trail ski conditions. The site can be found at www.slocanvalleyrailtrail.ca.
This year, as well as grooming the Rail Trail, the SVHTS have been maintaining approximately five km. of track around the Valleyview Golf Course. On Wednesday, Jan. 19 they are inviting skiers and winter enthusiasts alike to join them for a ski/walk/slide under moonlight.
The Society will be there 6:30-8 p.m. with a fire going and a cup of hot chocolate waiting if you need to warm up. You can park by the golf club entrance or ski down the rail trail from Perry’s Siding and take the side trail up to the course.
It’s expected that the moon will be up by around 7 p.m. Please remember that night skiing can pose a risk, so please be careful.
The Society that maintains the trail has very limited funds available and are grateful for the support being shown by the community. To help offset the many costs of grooming the trail, they would like to remind everyone of the donation boxes located at several trailheads throughout the Slocan Valley.
If you enjoy using the trail, then please show your support the next time you come out. For more information on the ski day, contact the Society at 1-888-663-SVRT or visit the website and send an email.
