Slippery roads are believed to be the cause of a two-car accident between an east-bound van and west-bound truck Friday afternoon on the Highway 3 A near the summit of the Salmo-Creston Highway pass.

In the early mid-afternoon an east bound van driven by a Nelson man slowed to pass a semi trailer truck parked west side of the summit on the side of the road. The driver stopped chaining up.

While passing the tractor-trailer a black truck heading east lost control on the icy roads and collided head-on with the van.

A fire started in the van shortly after the collision. The driver of the truck, who had a fire extinguisher, and passing motorists removed the driver of the van and put out the fire.

The driver of the van was rushed by B.C. Ambulance to Creston Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The male occupant was later taken to Cranbrook Regional Hospital with broken bones.

The driver of the truck also suffered non-life threatening injuries. RCMP along with Salmo Fire Department attended the accident scene.

No charges have been laid at this time.
