City comes in second in municipal spending: report
The City of Nelson has the second highest per capita spending among communities its size, according to a report by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.
Nelson was second in its class (5,000 to 10,000) only to Whistler, spending $2,558 per person in the city. The CFIB ranked cities according to their spending per capita.
But Mayor John Dooley had said the higher cost is reflected by including Nelson Hydro, the city’s utility company added into the municipal budget.
However, Mayor Dooley said the utility company’s spending is covered by the revenue it generates — around $12.
