There was no trick to the treat Nelson Police Department laid on over 50 calls for service on the Halloween weekend, but most of the calls were not serious.

One of the more bizarre was a “grossly intoxicated” 37-year-old Nelson man who wandered onto a Granite Road property Saturday morning around 4:37 a.m.

“The (man) was unaware of his whereabouts and unable to care for himself,” said acting Sgt. Jarrett Slomba.

The man was arrested without incident for trespass at night and being intoxicated in public.

That incident was followed by the equally bizarre incident of a single-vehicle accident Sunday night in Rosemont.

When police arrived on the scene they found a small pickup truck on its roof on the sidewalk portion of Robertson Ave.

“The driver and two occupants had fled the scene,” said Sgt. Slomba. “However, they were located a short distance away.”

The 20-year-old driver from Grand Forks was found to be under the influence of alcohol, and was issued a 24-hour suspension of her driver’s licence — as well as being charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, driving without due care and attention, and operating a motor vehicle contrary to restriction (novice driver with alcohol).

All three occupants sustained minor injuries in the accident but did not require hospitalization.

Other calls involved:

• A 29-year-old Salmo man arrested after he was found intoxicated and consuming open liquor and causing a disturbance on Baker Street Friday night.

He was also found to be in breach of a probation order that stated he was to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. Charges are pending in relation to this incident.

• An observed speeding violation in Rosemont Friday night led to the discovery of a 29-year-old Nelson resident operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

The driver provided a breath sample on an approved screening device at the roadside and a “fail” was recorded. The driver was issued an immediate 90-day roadside prohibition of his driver’s licence and his vehicle was impounded for a 30-day period.

• A tree-on-vehicle accident occurred Saturday night on the corner of Hall Mines and Stanley Street after a 27-year-old Salmo resident tried to take a short cut out of town.

After police located the vehicle southbound on Highway 6, the driver was stopped and subsequently failed a test on an approved screening device.

He was issued an immediate 90-day roadside prohibition of his driver’s licence and his vehicle was impounded for a 30-day period.
