After the Nelson Police Department saw a rash of thefts from vehicles in several residential areas of the city on the weekend, they are reminding people that prevention is the best form of medicine.

The majority of the thefts occurred from unlocked vehicles, said NPD Sgt. Steve Bank.

“Although a suspect has been identified in this recent crime spree, we would like to remind vehicle drivers to always lock their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight,” he said.

In this case, Nelson Police are seeking the suspect and, once located, will be charging the individual with multiple thefts.

On Friday evening a 12-year-old boy was hit in the face by a pellet from an airsoft gun while delivering papers.

Although the boy was not injured, NPD officers attended the residence and spoke to the individual involved, said Sgt. Bank.

“Police seized the airsoft gun for destruction,” he said.

Charges will not be filed in this case.

Police arrested and temporarily removed a 35-year-old man from a Rosemont residence after answering a call about a domestic dispute.

The man was subsequently released by police with bail conditions and will be appearing in court for offence of assault with a weapon. No injuries occurred in this incident.
