Fire and first responder calls down in Area F
By Timothy Schafer, The Nelson Daily
Fire and first responder calls were down this summer, according to the Beasley Fire Rescue fire chief.
Al Craft said the call volume was down noticeably for the summer of 2010 over the last year, although he couldn’t give an exact figure.
However, the Nelson Search and Rescue made up for the slow times, having 35 calls for service so far this year, making them the third busiest group in the province, Craft said.
Nelson SAR is now working on a long-term lease for the North Shore Hall and have finished the construction of a boathouse at the Kootenay Launch Club.
Calls for the boat were also down this summer, Craft said.
Kootenay heli-rescue has had four calls this year.
He also said the job posting for the new regional fire chief position has gone out for advertisement.
