People will be charged $200 for a false fire alarm and $400 for not maintaining smoke alarms, according to the new Fees and Charges Amendment Bylaw amendment passed by City council.

The bylaw amendment contained updates and additions to the fees and charges the Nelson Fire Rescue department could charge in a given situation.

Most of the 16 fees and 22 bylaw infractions carried over from the previous incarnation of the bylaw, with the addition of the $6 per month for a signaling device — for Central Alarm Monitoring Service — being the reason for the update.

For a complete list of the fees and penalties, see the City of Nelson website at http://nelson.civicweb.net/Documents/DocumentList.aspx?ID=488.
