It’s a season of more losses than wins  for the Mount Sentinel Wildcats. But a glimmer of hope still remains every time the Single-A squad takes the floor.

The Cats finished 22nd overall at Kelowna Secondary’s Best of the West Volleyball Tournament Saturday in the Central Okanagan City. Mount Sentinel finished with a 2-4 record in the 32-team event.

“We played a little better than the previous week at UBC-O, although inconsistency continues to be a concern when we play stronger teams,” said Mount Sentinel coach Joe Moreira.

The Cats lost matches to North Peace from Fort St. John (1-2), and North Kam of Kamloops (1-2) before registering its first win of the tournament against Salmon Arm Jewels (2-0). Mount Sentinel made it two in a row with a victory over Victoria’s Stelley’s (2-1).

However, the win streaking was quickly extinguished with losses to North Peace (2-1) and Kelowna’s Immaculata (2-0). The Immaculata scores were 25-20, 25-19.

Moreira has been experimenting with the lineup in an effort to find the answer to turning this team around.

“In an effort to fine that elusive consistent play we again experimented with play roles (positions) on the floor,” he explained. “(However,) we are still searching.”

The Cats have a weekend off before resuming play October 29-30 in Penticton.

“Our focus will be on stabilizing our team play as we prepare for the second half of the season,” he said.
