Building permits, values, drop in some RDCK areas
By Timothy Schafer, The Nelson Daily
Building permits and construction values were down in the regional district municipalities in September, continuing a trend that has been endemic the entire year.
There were only 83 building permits issued in the last month, down from 119 last year, and 644 issued for the year-to-date in 2010, down from 721.
The construction value of those permits was $5.66 million, close to the $6.2 million that 2009 witnessed. Overall for the year, values are down $1 million to $48.3 million.
Those are the figures for the municipalities of Kaslo, New Denver, Nakusp, Salmo, Silverton and Slocan.
In the rural electoral areas, there were 73 permits issued for a total of $6.1 million. To-date, there have been 562 building permits issued, with a value of $43.3 million.
