Don’t look now but there’s another champion for the Home of Champions — and the newest recipient doesn’t play hockey.

Twenty-year-old Ximena Abresch of Trail was crowned the Women’s Champion at the Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival Saturday in Whistler.

Abresch, a student at University of BC, took home an 11-pound wheel of cheese along with two ski passes to Whister/Blackcomb.

Abresch, along with men’s winner Jordan Lenham of Cambridge, England, outchased the field for an 11-pound wheel of Courtenay Cheddar cheese down a hill on Blackcomb Mountain.

What was the key to victory for Abresch?

“Don’t stop,” she said.

And what is on tap for the 11-pound wheel of cheese?

“Have a cheese and beer party with friends.”
