A burn pile fire overwhelmed a property owner Thursday afternoon near Taghum, forcing a call for Regional District of Central Kootenay Fire Departments to assist.

Fire Departments from Beasley, Crescent Valley and Blewett attended the fire, located just off Highway 3A 10 kilometers west of Nelson.

The property owner was burning a large pile of debris, from an old abandoned house near the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks, when the fire errupted, scortching the banks and trees surrounding the blaze.

Firefighters spent some time mopping up hotspots around the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The fire Thursday near the CPR tracks at Taghum was a little too much for the property owner to handle.
