Nelson Police announce hiring of new Deputy Chief

The Nelson Police Department is announcing the hiring a new Deputy Chief for the Heritage City detachment.

“I am happy to announce the new Deputy Chief for the Nelson Police Department is Rajnish (Raj) Saini,” Chief Constable Donovan Fisher said in a media release Monday.

Deputy Chief Saini, who grew up in Toronto, comes to Nelson Police from the Brantford Police Service, where he served for 23 years. 

Deputy Chief Saini is a trained Incident Commander and brings a strong operational background as a MCM Team Commander. 

“(Saini) has recently been seconded to work on shooting investigations, has worked in the homicide unit and has conducted project-level drug and other complex investigations,” Chief Fisher said.

“He is a part-time instructor at the Ontario Police College, teaching Investigative Techniques and Major Case Management courses.”

Deputy Chief Saini has a master’s degree in public safety and is working to complete his Ph.D. He is multilingual with fluency in Punjabi, Hindi and English.

Deputy Chief Saini will be moving with his family to Nelson, and begins the position as Deputy Chief on January 4, 2022.
