Brent Bukowski spent the past weekend installing the north side of the railing he designed and built for the Baker St. Bridge across Cottonwood Creek (just below the 4-way stop on Baker).

He was commissioned by Nelson’s Cultural Development Commission after a juried competition last year. The project is part of the city’s Sustainable Downtown and Waterfront Master Plan.

Bukowski is a sculptor and metalworker who works entirely with recycled materials. He did most of the work on the bridge railing over the past few months in his Kaslo workshop.

In this 4-minute video we see him at work on the installation on the bridge. He discusses the design of the piece, the unique materials he chose, and his personal connections to the past and present of Nelson.
