Five Nelson gymnasts, earned highly sought after placements on the Kootenay Zone Gymnastics Team to compete at the 2023 BC Winter Games in Vernon March 23-26.

Molly Anderson, 15 and Jersey Skolka, 13, won two of three spots in the Level 7 category.

The Fernie Falcons started fast and never looked back en route to a convincing 102-51 decision over Kootenay River of Creston in the final of the Kootenay Classic High School Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday at the L.V. Rogers Hangar in Nelson.

The L.V. Rogers Bombers will host a six-team Kootenay Classic High School Boys’ Basketball Tournament beginning Friday at the Hangar in Nelson.

The Bombers host Mount Baker of Cranbrook, Kootenay River from Creston, Fernie, Trail’s J. Lloyd Crowe and Stanley Humphries from Castlegar.

The local hockey scene is mourning the loss of former Nelson Maple Leafs winger Buck Crawford, who died suddenly last week in the Heritage City.

Crawford arrived in Nelson in the mid-60s to play for the Senior Maple Leafs in the Western International Hockey League after playing minor hockey in Powell River and Junior Hockey in Kamloops.
