Sikula, Edward

Edward Sikula was born in Neusiedl, Austria, on August 5,1935 and emigrated to Canada with his mother Mary and his brother Michael Sikula, in 1952. The family moved to Nelson where Ed was employed by Ramsay Cameras & Art Supplies, he was eternally grateful to Bill and Buddy Ramsay for helping him adjust to Canadian living.
He married Claudia Martin, (nee Dosenberger) on April 6, 1959. Ed obtained his teachers degree from Notre Dame University where he was awarded the Governor Generals Award for top academic standing. Upon graduation Ed was hired as a teacher at Hume Elementary School, moved up to Principal at the Procter Elementary and finally the Rosemont School where he retired in 1991.
Upon retirement, Ed actively pursued his passion as a master gunsmith, a hobby he had enjoyed for many years, He was active in the West Arm Outdoorsman Club, enjoyed hunting, camping, photography and watching sports, especially hockey games in his later years. He always enjoyed sharing his passions with friends and family.
Ed passed away peacefully at the Kootenay Lake Hospital on October 26, 2022, with family at his side. He was predeceased by his Father Augustin Sikula, Mother Mary Dryzmala & stepfather Frank Dryzmala, brother Michael Sikula, wife Claudia and daughter Teresa (Terri).
Ed is survived by his sister-in-law Dawn Sikula, nephews David (Ann Bau) and Michael (Kim Barron), half-sister Betty (George) Vnoucek, brother-in-law Nicholas (Mary) Dosenberger, sister-in-law Elaine (Charles) Beaulac, Kendall Goodrich (Terri Sikula), and many nephews, nieces, and great nephews, and nieces in the Vnoucek, Dosenberger, Turner, and Fiander families.
Cremation will take place and there will be no funeral service as per Ed’s request. The family will hold a celebration of life at a private family gathering on a later date.
We would like to give special thanks to the Management and staff at Lakeview Village Seniors Community, the ER Staff, Dr. MacKay, and the nursing staff of the 3rd floor at Kootenay Lake Hospital for their outstanding care and support and friend Gordon Grunerud.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation or the West Arm Outdoorsman Club.
