Sannes, Georgie Maria

Georgie Maria Sannes (nee Faulkner) was born on April 28th, 1931 in Park Siding, British Columbia. Georgie is survived by her children Beverly Dale (North Vancouver), Alf Robert (Oslo, Norway), Eric Austin (Williams Lake), Karen Elizabeth (South Slocan), Christine Viola (Edmonton), Keith Johannes (Castlegar) and Per David (Williams Lake). She will be remembered by her 17 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother John & Verna Faulkner (Campbell River).
She was predeceased by her parents Harvey & Elizabeth (Lizzie) Faulkner, as well as sisters Viola, Elizabeth, Faith, Hope & Charity. Georgie graduated from Trail High School. She took a job working as a bookkeeper after high school, worked at a bank as a teller and in 1949 joined the Canada Women’s Air Corp completing training in Montreal.
When she was discharged she began working on freighters as a stewardess, travelling the world. Returning to Canada in 1956 and then working as a bank teller once again. After joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon), Georgie raised her family starting in Richmond and moving to Nelson in 1971.
After working at the movie theatre, a doctors office and the bank Georgie followed her entrepreneurial spirit and moved to Welling, Alberta and opened a store and post office she ran for many years. Returning to Nelson in 1992, in her retirement she made and sold jams, jellies and bakery items at the weekly market in Nelson well into her 80s. Grandma G’s Jams & Jellies was famous for pies and Jalapeño Jelly. She worked at the Kootenay Lake Hospital Auxiliary and did Meals on Wheels as well.
After living in Rosemont for 25 years, Georgie moved into care in 2018 at Mountain Lakes Seniors Complex where she passed away peacefully. Her work ethic, cooking skills and entrepreneurial spirit live on in her children and grandchildren.
She loved her children, family, friends and community and held them closely in her heart. Her prayers have held all of us up and kept us safe. Georgie will be missed by her family and many friends.
