Miller (Power), Isabel Mary
(March 11th, 2021)
Isabel Mary Miller (Power) passed away peacefully on March 5, 2021, at the age of 87. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Magdalene, brother Charles, sister-in-law Mena, and cousin Margaret, as well as her children Sheila (Ralph), Paul (Nancy) and Janet (John).
She will be dearly missed by her beloved grandchildren Kat, Emily, Lindsey, Jessie, James and Will, and precious great-grandchildren Zoe, Kyle, Logan, Finnigan, Maeve, Teo and Luka.
Isabel’s many nephews and nieces fondly recall her generosity and encouragement, her jokes, and fierce loyalty to the Montreal Canadiens.
Isabel is predeceased by her parents and 7 siblings, as well as her husband James Francis Miller (1976) and her son James (1964).
Isabel’s career in office administration began in the 1950’s, in her hometown of St. John’s, NL. She enjoyed a 14-year sabbatical as a homemaker before resuming full-time work for the federal government in North Bay, ON. Upon her retirement she moved to Victoria, BC, where she delighted in hosting visitors and “never shovelling snow again.”
During her travels as a military wife and through her work, Isabel made life-long friendships with people from many regions. She was a dedicated correspondent and sent dozens of handwritten notes and letters every month, often with annotated newspaper clippings included. Despite her illness she put her lengthy Christmas card list into action in 2020.
Isabel was a good neighbour who generously supported worthy causes in every community she called home, serving as a Girl Guide leader and church volunteer, as well as sharing her famous homemade bread.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and internment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in North Bay at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in Isabel’s memory are invited to consider Covenant House or local food bank.
