With a heavy heart we announce that Margaret passed away peacefully in Nelson, BC on Wednesday July 17, 2024. Born in Malta, Europe in 1938, Margaret was the youngest of 8 children.
She married the love of her life Dr Paul J Micallef in 1961, and in 1964 along with 2 babies in tow, Margaret and Paul immigrated to Nelson where together they built a loving family and community. A few more moves were in her future and after living in Quebec City, Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto, Margaret returned to Nelson in 2022.
She is survived by her daughters Simone Simpson (Mike Hurley) and Danielle Micallef, and her sister Vicky Vidal.
Margaret was immensely proud of her grandchildren Petra Simpson (Jimmy Huston), Robby Simpson, Joey Simpson and Sabrina Micallef, as well as her many nieces and nephews whom she loved so dearly. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Paul and daughter Bernadette.
A funeral mass will be held September 14 at 11:00 am, at the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate, 813 Ward Street, Nelson, British Columbia, to honour Margaret’s life and legacy. There will be a reception to follow at the parish hall, next door in the St. Joseph’s school gym at noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests considering a donation to a charity of choice. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful doctors, nurses, care aids, and support staff at Mountain Lakes, Nelson for their compassionate care.
