Maida, Egidio Gino

(September 7th, 2022)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, and Nonno on September 7, 2022, peacefully at his home with family by his side at age 85.

Egidio was born on January 7, 1937, in Aprigiliano, Italy. He came to Canada at the age of 16 with his mother, brothers, and sisters to join their father. Egidio met Emma in Nelson, BC, in 1962 and married on June 29, 1963. Together they raised their 3 boys, Frank, Tony, and Len.

In Nelson, Egidio was employed at KFP until shut down and at that time joined his brother Quinto, and Leonardo working at Arrow Buidling Supplies. While working at KFP, Egidio and Leonardo owned and ran Nelson Mixed Billiards.

Egidio was an original member of Nelson Italian Canadian Society since 1972. In his earlier days he belonged to the Nelson Men’s and Mixed Bowling League. His passion was growing and tending his garden, the most admired garden. He was meticulous in organizing and planting his garden. He was never short of offering the produce to friends and neighbours. Egidio enjoyed his routine visits from friends and family dropping in anytime, all times.

Egidio was predeceased by his loving wife Emma, parents Virginia and Francesco, brothers Leonardo, Quinto, and sister Dora. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Connie, sons Frank (Jacquie), Tony (Sandra), Len (Wendy), grandchildren, Jared (Val), Melissa (Paul), Nicholas (Ivery), Tyler (Nikki), Adam (Anna), Jayden (MeKenzie), Jayne, Beth, Colton, great grandchild Wesley, and many nieces and nephews.

The Maida family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr McKechnie and the staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made on Egidio’s behalf to the KLH Foundation.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on September 17, 2022, at the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate, 813 Ward Street, Nelson, BC.
