(August 24th, 2021)

12 NOVEMBER 1966-16 JULY 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Lockhart. Tina was born in Prestonpans, Scotland.

Tina passed away at Kootenay Lake Hospital after a long and courageous battle with Stage 4 Cancer.

She is survived by her sister Lesley (Ray) Stewart and 3 nephews Burton, Jonathan and Daniel and her parents Bruce and Lilian Lockhart.

She was predeceased by her sister Kirsty Lee Lockhart who died 9 September 1983, aged 18 along with 3 of her friends on Copper Mountain.

Tina suffered for 35 years the serious illness of Schizophrenia from the age of 19 to the present.  She was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer in 2018.

The Lockhart Family extends their appreciation and thanks to the wonderful health care professionals who did their ultimate best to support Tina: Dr. Kevin McKechnie, Specialist, Dr. Philip Malpass and all the KLH Chemo Unit staff and Kelowna Hospital’s Radiation Team. We would also like to thank Nelson’s IHA Home Care team of nurses and home care support staff and all the Mental Health Workers.

Tina had many wonderful friends far reaching the globe, in particular her friend Rosie Galley (Keith) in England.  For 19 years they corresponded across the Atlantic Ocean complete with many funny and interesting gifts.  Her friend Marlene Lovestrom provided Tina with an over abundance of calls during the times that Tina needed it most.

Tina has corresponded with some famous people as well such as:

Steve Martin, comedian and actor, James Heriot, Author “All Creatures Great And Small” Prince Edward, Buckingham Palace, Bryan Adams, Musician, and Charles Schultz (Peanuts and Snoopy).

She also starred in an Educational Schizophrenia Video in Vancouver, BC.

Tina’s kind and generous heart also supported many charitable organizations:  BCSPCA and several churches. Tina was an animal lover, caring for 8 dogs, multiple cats and many other small furry critters. She also helped many desperate friends in need of cash.

Yearly, Tina attended the Friendship Outreach Clubhouse’s summer trips to the Tipi Camp for outdoor cooking, crafts, canoeing, sing songs and evening bonfires in the pristine and off grid outdoors.

Tina loved to cook and wrote many unique recipes to try out on her family who always ended up enjoying the delicious meals. She also loved to paint and draw cartoons and wildlife.  She especially loved scenery and landscapes.

Although Tina suffered greatly in many ways she was never one to complain about what she had missed or didn’t have.  She was always full of compliments for everyone. She was a beautiful person and she   was not fond of having her picture taken!

Tina attended school in Nelson including, Gordon Sargeant, Central, Trafalgar and the Bethel Christian School.

A celebration of life will be held by her family at a later date. Cremation has taken place.

In closing,  I as her father found her on the bathroom floor, and asked  her “are you in pain?” Tina replied with her last words “no, dad, I am okay now.”

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the BC Cancer Society and The Schizophrenia Society.

Thank you all for your many kindnesses and for the love and support to our family, our friends and our neighbours.

Bruce and Lilian Lockhart
