Another winter comes and goes, and Whitewater Ski Resort officially shut down operations in glorious fashion on Sunday in the mountains south of Nelson.

Although initial predictions for the season prophesied doom and gloom, the El Nino weather system actually delivered one of the best winters in years, and there were plenty of content skiers and snowboarders out on Sunday saying goodbye until next year.

Sunday, at the Resort, the Beach Party theme was going strong with shorts, sunnies and plenty of leis. There may have been more than a few speedos kicking around as well.

The sun was shining, the music was pumping and the costumes were out in full force.

The Harpoonist & Axe Murderer kept the tunes flowing for everyone taking advantage of the glorious early-patio season, and by the afternoon there were hundreds gathered around a giant hole in the ground for the annual Slush Cup.

The Annual Slush Cup that involved skiers, snowboarders, and even a tag-team Patrol sled —most of which ended up taking a swim — was again the highlight of the day as hundreds of spectators packed the man-made pond near the lodge.

All in all, the crowd could not have asked for a better way to cap off an amazing season.

Here’s to a great year, until the snow falls again, stay safe.
