UPDATED: Speed considered to be a factor in Highway 3A accident Monday

Nelson RCMP continues to investigate an accident that closed Highway 3A on the Northshore Monday morning.
Cst. Stathis Dimopoulos said RCMP received a call at approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday of a single vehicle accident blocking both lanes of traffic near the 2600 block of Highway 3A.
“Preliminary investigation has determined that the dump truck was travelling east bound on the highway pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with an excavator,” Dimopoulos said.
“The flatbed and load shifted while attempting to negotiate a turn eventually causing the trailer to flip with it’s load intact. Both lanes of the highway were closed for approximately 1.5 hours.”
Dimopoulos said no subjects were injured during this occurrence but crews took time to eventually cleared one lane for traffic.
“Nelson RCMP is continuing with it’s investigation to determine exact cause of the incident,” Dimopoulos said.
“Speed is considered to be a factor at this time.”
Major accident halts traffic on North Shore Monday morning
Highway 3A 6.5 kilometers east of Nelson on the North Shore was the scene of a major accident Monday morning.
The acccident, involving a dump truck towing an excavator that flipped off its trailer, halted traffic in both directions for more than an hour.
The Drive BC website said the highway was reduced to single lane traffic that began flowing shortly after 11 a.m.
