Kelowna RCMP released a photo and video of the suspect allegedly fleeing the scene after the shooting of two men Saturday at 7p.m., around Pandosy Street and KLO Road in Kelowna.

Police said the initial investigation has resulted in the identification of video of a suspect allegedly fleeing the scene after the shooting occurred.

RCMP said Saturday officers responded to a shooting of Kyle Gianis and a 25-year-old Surrey man near Pandosy Street and KLO Road.

Police said the suspect in the video is wearing light coloured pants, and a light coloured sweatshirt with the hood pulled up.

“We are releasing the video at the earliest opportunity in the hopes that someone from the community recognizes the clothing or distinctive gait of this person,” says Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy in a RCMP media release.

“If you believe you know who this suspect is, we ask you to do the right thing and identify them to us.”

RCMP said the suspect was seen fleeing the area in a light-coloured SUV.

Police said as part of the ongoing investigation, Kelowna RCMP is asking for any dash camera footage from vehicles driving on Pandosy Street from KLO Road Harvey Avenue between the hours of 6:20 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. on July 31.

Kelowna RCMP locate explosive device following targeted shooting

RCMP said one man remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a targeted shooting where officers found an undetonated improvised explosive device Saturday in Kelowna.

RCMP said just before 7 p.m., Saturday, July 31, 2021, Kelowna RCMP responded to a two-person shooting in area of Pandosy Street and KLO Road in Kelowna.

RCMP said both victims were transported by BC Emergency Health Services to hospital for treatment of their injuries, where the 37-year-old West Kelowna resident Kyle Gianis was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released from the hospital.

The second victim, a 25-year-old Surrey man remains in hospital with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.

“We have reason to believe this was a targeted attack on these two men,” says Insp. Beth McAndie of the Kelowna RCMP.

“Because of his criminal activities and associates, Mr. Gianis poses a threat to our community and the public in general, and we are putting all our resources into investigating this newest incident,” Insp. McAndie added.

Police said witnesses reported a man fleeing the scene in a silver SUV. However, no arrests have been made at this time.

“While investigating the scene of the shooting, frontline officers located what is believed to be an undetonated improvised explosive device,” explains Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy, Media Relations Officer for the Kelowna RCMP.

“Police immediately cordoned off the area. It will remain closed until officers with the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit have safely dealt with the device.”

No further information is being released at this time, but Kelowna RCMP are urging anyone who witnessed or has knowledge of this crime to come forward to speak with police immediately.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. Or remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net
