Nelson Hydro said that Granite Road residents, near Georama Road, and Balfour Golf Course are the latest to see power restored as crews continue to repair lines following Sunday’s massive windstorm.
Nelson Hydro said the Balfour Golf Course will have power restored by 7 p.m. Tuesday while 20 customers along Granite Road west of Georama Road will be able to cook dinner after power was restored this afternoon.
“Line crews are continuing their work in the Grohman area today and will be in that area until Friday,” Nelson Hydro said.
“Customers will have power restored on an individual basis as the work progresses over the next few days.”
- Svoboda Road residents – Crews will be in that area in the next few hours and will have power restored for this evening.
Nelson Hydro said damage to secondary lines has left some areas still without power.
“Our technicians have been reaching out to customers on an individual basis to address concerns and resolve issues.

Hydro crews continue to restore power to customers following Sunday windstorm
Nelson Hydro continues to clean up storm debris and restore power following a massive windstorm that rocked the West Kootenay region Sunday evening.
In a media release Monday, Nelson Hydro, with the assistance of additional contract and arborist crews, said outages continue for customers from Nelson to Coffee Creek.
"The damage on the North Shore from approximately 1600 Highway 3A at the Blaylock Estates out to the Six Mile area is more extensive," Nelson Hydro said.
"Damage has been cleaned up between the Blaylock Estates and Nasookin Road area.
"Additional line crews have now been dispatched to this area to repair the damage and will be putting in all efforts to have power restored. Once this work is complete, Nelson Hydro will be able to restore power to much of the Northshore service area. We will provide an update when we have an estimate of restoration time."
Other outtages include:
- North Shore from the seven hundred block of highway 3A, all the way to Coffee Creek and including Balfour, Harrop and Procter.
- FortisBC is currently working to return the power supply to Coffee Creek which supplies the North Shore to Redfish Creek.
- FortisBC has completed their flight over the lines coming into Coffee Creek from the West and found a number of trees down on the lines.
- BC Hydro also has crews surveying the lines coming from the east into Coffee Creek.
Nelson Hydro said a number of power poles were replaced on the North Shore Sunday night with crews working until 3 a.m.
Nelson Hydro said Blewett road is now restored while Granite Road and Georama Road should have their power restored shortly.
Nelson Hydro said there will still be approximately 20 customers on Granite Road without power until Tuesday morning.
"The Grohman community's power will be restored once crews have cleared multiple fallen trees and the line crew has access to the area," Nelson Hydro said.
"Arborists crews will be in the area this afternoon to begin removal."
"Thank you for your patience as we work diligently to restore power to the service area," Nelson Hydro added.

Massive windstorm knocks out power to Nelson Hydro customers, forces closure of Highway 3A on North Shore
A surprise windstorm that swept through the West Kootenay Sunday evening knocked out power to most of Nelson Hydro customers and caused Highway 3A on the North Shore to be closed while crews dealt with several downed trees.
Nelson Hydro said on the City of Nelson Facebook page “Nelson Hydro is experiencing outages in multiple areas due to a wind event.”
The recording on Nelson Hydro phone message line said power was affected from Sproule Creek and Blewett west of Nelson to Queens Bay, north of Balfour.
Yellowhead Road and Bridge highway maintenance contractor said in its Facebook page that Highway 3A was closed due to downed trees on powerlines at Four Mile, near Ridgewood Road.
City of Nelson said traffic is being turned around at the Big Orange Bridge. Residents of Johnstone Road are able to access their homes.
DriveBC reported alerts on Highway 3A between Nasookin and Six Mile; on the East Shore of Kootenay Lake between Kuskanook and Kootenay Bay; and four kilometers south of Kootenay Bay near Crawford Bay.
Hydro crews as well as North Shore Fire Department members were on scene to deal with the cluster of trees falling over the lines.
There were also trees across power lines approximately two miles from the Big Orange Bridge as well as near Nasookin.
