The warmer weather has chased the snow away at Granite Pointe, allowing Golf Operations Manager Reg Clarkson to open all 18 holes for play beginning Friday, April 16, 2021.

The course conducted a soft opening Monday, April 12 with players filling the back nine with golfers throughout the week.

With temperatures pushing into the low 20s this week, soft spots on the course have dried up allowing staff to fully open the course.

Clarkson would like any players golfing to continue to follow Provincial Health Office guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • Keep to household bubbles and avoid social gatherings
  • Stay home when you are sick and get tested if you have any symptoms consistent with COVID‑19
  • Practise physical distancing and use a mask if you cannot
  • Wash your hands often

All players should stay away from the course if they have any of the COVID-19 symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Loss of sense of smell or taste
  • Other milder symptoms may include: sore throat, loss of appetite, fatigue, body aches (muscles and joints aching), diarrhea, headache, and nausea or vomiting.

Tee times can be made by calling the Granite Pointe Golf Course at 250.352.5913. For more information go to the Granite Pointe website.

Granite Pointe ready for golfers

Granite Pointe Golf Course in Nelson is joining many of the other tracks in the West Kootenays, opening the course to members Monday.

Granite Pointe Golf Operations Manager Reg Clarkson said Monday will be a soft opening to the 2021 season, with nine holes — back nine — available for golfers to clean off any rust that may have formed on the game from the past off season.

Traditionally, the front nine has a few more holes that hold the snow from the winter and take a bit longer to dry up.

However, with the warmer weather, it should not take much longer before the entire 6,209-yard, 18-hole course is ready for full-time operations.
