UPDATED: Another Snowfall Warning for Boundary, West Kootenay

Environment Canada has issued another Snowfall Warning for Boundary, West Kootenay Sunday, including Highway 3 Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected.

“A strong frontal system moving in from the Pacific will bring snow to parts of interior British Columbia (Sunday),” the Environment Canada website said.

“Snow will become heavier for Highway 3 – Hope to Princeton via Allison Pass and Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass this morning.

“Total accumulations of 15 to 20 cm are expected before the system moves east this evening.”

Drivers should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions with rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Snowfall warning continues through Friday

Environment Canada said Friday morning that the snowfall, with expected total amounts of 15 to 25 cm, will continue into Friday.

“A Pacific storm will move across the BC interior today,” Environment Canada said, “as 5 to 10 cm of snow has fallen across the West Kootenay region last night.

“Heavy snow will continue this morning and then become mixed with rain at the valley bottoms this afternoon. Additional snowfall accumulation of 10 to 15 cm is expected today.”

Environment Canada said said driver should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions as visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Environment Canada issued a Snowfall Warning for West Kootenay, Boundary regions Thursday morning due to a Pacific frontal system moving across the BC interior today through Friday.

“Light snow from the system will start this morning over Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass,” the Environment Canada website said.

“The snow is expected to intensify tonight and persist through Friday. Total snow accumulations up to 40 cm can be expected before the snow tapers off to a few flurries Friday evening.”

Environment Canada said snowfalls of 15 to 25 cm is expected in lower elevations.

Environment Canada said the public should consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve as surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Environment Canada said weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
