Trafalgar Thunder teams will square off this week for West Kootenay bragging rights after the Nelson-based squads finished one-two at the Grade 8 Girl’s Volleyball Championships Friday at the Mount Sentinel gymnasium in the South Slocan.

“Since we were playing each other in the final we decided to play it at Trafalgar on Monday in front of the school as we would have been there till midnight if not,” said Thunder coach Staci Proctor.

Thunder A squad split with Grand Forks, winning nine of ten games against Rossland, host Mount Sentinel, J. Lloyd Crowe of Trail and Castlegar’s Stanley Humphries Rockers.

Meanwhile, Thunder B lost only two of ten games against host Mount Sentinel, Grand Forks, Salmo, J. Lloyd Crowe and Stanley Humphries.

Stanley Humphries finished third in the Grade 8 Girl’s Volleyball Tournament.

In Tier II action, Grand Forks edged out Mount Sentinel for the top prize.

Saturday, Grand Forks took the crown at the West Kootenay Junior Girl’s Championships at Mount Sentinel.

L.V. Rogers of Nelson was second followed in third by Stanley Humphries.

The volleyball scene shifts to the provincial tournaments as Mount Sentinel is playing host to the BC High School A Girl’s Championships Thursday through Saturday.

The tournament is being played at Selkirk College Gymnasium in Castlegar with the L.V. Rogers Hangar serving as site for round robin games Thursday and Friday morning.

The medal round games are set for Saturday beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the bronze match.
