Trafalgar runners sweep Junior Division at West Kootenay Cross Country Championships

Aleah Smith and Dawson Abraham Trafalgar swept the Junior Division races at the at the recent West Kootenay Cross Country Championships in Castlegar.

Smith edged Maya Abraham of L.V. Rogers by a second to capture the 4.5-kilometer Junior Girl’s race in a time of 18 minutes, 55 seconds.

Kallie Badry was fifth in at time of 22:48 with Maina Hetu of LVR sixth at 22:50, Amane Fukada and Chloe Gaudreau, both of Trafalgar, eighth and ninth, respectively.

Trafalgar’s Gala Thomas and Chloe Loveday finished 10th and 14th, respectively.

In the Junior Boy’s race, Abraham edged Mitchell Erickson of L.V. Rogers finished one-two in the Junior Boy’s Division at the recent West Kootenay Cross Country Championships in Castlegar.

Abraham, a Grade Seven student at Trafalgar, finished the 4.5-kilometer race in a time of 16:50 — one second ahead of Erickson.

Nathan Shlakoff of Trafalgar was fifth at 20:13 followed by teammate Tiago Pentecost at 21:50.

In the Senior Boy’s Division, Jaxon Kuchar of J. Lloyd Crowe in Trail won the race in a time of 15:18.

Cooper Legler of Seven Summits in Rossland was second followed in third by J. V. Humphries of Kaslo runners Micah Luchetta and Mack Zuk in fourth.

Kaz Dunnett of Hutton Elementary in Grand Forks won the Elementary Division.

Trafalgar runners Keira Badry was fourth, Sam Pentecost fifth, Chris Makortoff sixth and Camilla Lamontagne seventh.

Trafalgar runners all qualified to attend the BC High School Cross Country Championships Saturday, November 6 at Jericho Beach Park in Vancouver.
