Results are slowly trickling in from the BC Senior Games in Victoria with sisters from the West Kootenay Boundary Zone capturing center stage in Pickleball played on the campus of the University of Victoria.

Tanis Bourchier of Nelson and Christine Wayling of Castlegar combined to claim the Gold Medal in the Women’s 55-plus 3.0 Doubles competition.

The first-year players, originially from Rossland, blazed through the round robin undefeated before advancing to the final with a convincing victory.

In the final, the Bourchier/Wayling team fell behind 2-0 before taking over the match with six consecutive points en route to the Gold Medal.

Bourchier and Wayling are products of the Pickleball craze that has taken over the West Kootenay.

Thanks to former professional tennis player Tracy Bennet, who has been instrumental in increasing the involvement of the sport in the Nelson/Balfour area, Pickleball has seen a rise in participation during the past year.
