The L.V. Rogers Bombers concluded the 2022 High School Boys Basketball season with a tough 63-50 loss to St. Michael’s University of Sannich on the final day of the Provincial AAA Championships Saturday in Langley.

Senior forward Samuel Orasuk led the Bomber attack, finishing the game with 21 points — including four three-point shots.

“(It was a) back and forth game, providing tons of excitement,” said Bomber head coach Ryan McKinnon, missing assistant coach Matthew Fuhr for the duration of the tournament.

“The Bombers got the deficit down to (few) points in the final minutes.”

Other top LVR scorers included Griffin Phillips with 10 points and Quinn Kilpatrick with nine.

St. Michael’s led 17-12 after one quarter and 35-26 at halftime.

LVR, the Kootenay Rep at the provincial championship, opened the 16-team draw with a 103-49 loss to the top seed and eventual BC High School AAA Champion St. Patricks of Vancouver.

St. Pats jumped all over the Bombers, building a 32-9 lead after one quarter.

Orasuk led LVR with 13 points while Lucas Driedger added 10.

LVR then dropped a 79-43 decision to the defending AAA Champion from Chilliwack, G.W. Graham.

LVR played the Grizzlies tough for the first 20 minutes before running out of gas in the second half.

Orasuk had 12 points for LVR while point guard Jake Marshall had 10.

Sir Charles Tupper Tigers defeated LVR 82-55 in consolation round play Friday.

Marshall had 15 points for LVR while Phillips added 14.

The tournament was the final games for senior Bombers Quinn Kilpatrick, Mika Whitefield, Jake Marshall, Tomasso Gasiani, Calvin Wheeler, Griffin Phillips, Samuel Orasuk and Lucas Driedger.

Despite COVID-19 cutting short many tournaments for the Bombers, LVR managed to win 59th Okana-Ken Invitational Tournament in Oliver and the Kootenay Classic Invitational Tournament at the Hangar in Nelson.

Other Kootenay teams at the provincials in Langley, included Fernie Falcons — finishing fourth overall — and J. Lloyd Crowe Hawks of Trail, finishing with a 2-2 record after defeating Hugh Boyd 78-77 in consolation round action.
