Brooklyn Barge, a leading provider of barge and pile driving on the Arrow Lakes for the past 30 years, is looking to continue the same expert services on Kootenay Lake after recently acquiring Nelson’s Kootenay Barge

Brooklyn Barge & Tug Services Ltd. (BBT), a division of Sutherland Group Enterprises, is expanding its coverage of barge and marine services into Kootenay Lake following the purchase of Kootenay Lake Barge & Pile Driving Ltd. (KLB) — Kootenay Barge.

“Our distinctive position with the extended variety of business solutions and services available within The Sutherland Group gives us a unique opportunity to provide almost any kind of services required on the water and shores of both Kootenay and Arrow Lakes,” said Brooklyn Barge General Manager, Dale Gray.

“The addition of Kootenay Barge expands Brooklyn’s geographic coverage from the Arrow Lakes into Kootenay Lake and increases the breadth and depth of services we can offer to our customers across both bodies of water.”

Brooklyn Barge, a leading provider of barge and pile driving in the West Kootenay, has expanded its services to Kootenay Lake after purchasing Kootenay Lake Barge & Pile Driving Ltd. (KLB).

Gray said Sutherland Group Enterprises entered the marine business on Arrow Lakes in 2019 with the purchase of Brooklyn Barge.

Brooklyn Barge then saw another exciting opportunity to expand the business with the purchase of Kootenay Lake Barge in 2022 when the previous owner was looking to retire.

“This was an exciting opportunity for BBT to expand and offer all the services we have been providing to the Arrow Lakes now to the Kootenay Lake region,” Gray explained.

“Providing barging and marine services to Kootenay Lake also enables us to provide comprehensive service offering to our road building, timber services and Sutherland Group clients in the region.”

Gray said the Brooklyn Barge group consists of staff who are native to the region and carry a wealth of knowledge about the Kootenay, the Arrow and Slocan Lakes’ areas.

Gray said the two companies — BBT and KLB — have been collaborating for the past six months to guarantee a smooth transition to complete the acquisition.

“Our team is made up of problem solvers who are able to complete any task safely and professionally both on and off the water including certified operators, millwrights and welders,” Gray said.

“We offer a number of services including piling installation with a mounted pile driver and excavator mounted vibrating pile driver.”

Brooklyn Barge has six barges, including a CPR barge with a deck surface 225 feet long by 46 feet wide; a barge complete with a pile driver; two flat barges and one sectional barge with capabilities for transporting and moving to other lakes and water ways.

The company has three tugboats, two sidewinders and crew boats from 16 to 26 feet.

Brooklyn Barge offers servicing on Kootenay Lake from Nelson to Argenta to Creston, including Rykerts and the Canada/US border; Kootenay River from Nelson to Castlegar and on the Arrow Lakes from Castlegar to Revelstoke.

As well, Brooklyn Barge also can provide services on smaller water ways using its 30-foot X 60-foot sectional barge.

Some of the services of Brooklyn Barge include:
