Environment Canadasaid the potential for heavy rainfall continues through Monday morning.
As of Sunday morning, 5 to 15 mm of rainfall has fallen across the southern interior.
“A moist and unstable atmosphere over the southern BC interior tonight will continue to provide favourable conditions for showers and thunderstorms,” Environment Canadasaid.
“The possibility of locally heavy downpours will continue through Monday morning. Further rainfall amounts of 5 to 15 mm are expected tonight.
High streamflow advisories are currently in effect for these regions of the BC interior.
Environment Canada issued a Special Weather Statement for the Boundary, West Kootenay and Arrow/Slocan Lakes region Sunday.
Environment Canada said unsettled weather pattern with potential for heavy rain Sunday and tonight.
“A frontal system will track across southern BC this morning,” Environment Canada said.
“In its wake, an unstable atmosphere will give conditions favourable for afternoon showers and thunderstorms that may persist through tonight.”
Environment Canada said total rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 mm is possible by Monday morning.
High streamflow advisories are currently in effect for these regions of the BC interior, including the Boundary area where the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary is monitoring rivers and tributaries in the region.
“Rivers are expected to reach between a one and five year return based on current rain forecasts, which equates to an average to slightly above average freshet, but below 2017 levels that caused considerable low-elevation flooding, and well below 2018 levels that were catastrophic,” the RDKB said in a media release.
The RDKB continues to monitor all creeks and rivers and track BC River Forecast Centre model, will have emergency staff available through the long weekend and maintain its Emergency Operations Centre at a Level 2 for the next week in preparation for any emergency response that may be required.
