Days after Hall Street opened for traffic, there’s a new project that will test the patience of motorists frequenting the City of Nelson.

Last week Marwest began work on the sewer system in the 400 block of Vernon Street near Hume Hotel. City of Nelson staff said work is required to ensure the sanitary service remains open.

“(Marwest is) mobilizing equipment at the boulevard above the courthouse and will proceed to set up traffic control on Vernon Street on Wednesday, November 28, 2018,” the City website said.

“Expect traffic disruptions over the next couple weeks as the eastbound (Highway 3A) lane will be narrowed to accommodate equipment.”

The public can also expect to see traffic cones on 400 block of Ward Street as well as the sidewalk being closed on the west side of Ward/Vernon intersection.

City staff would like to remind motorists to slow down through the construction and speed, observe all signage and follow direction provided by the flaggers.
