Nelson Leafs are receiving outstanding leadership from team captain Jack Karran two games into the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Grande Prairie native leads the with four points in two games, including a game-winning goal in Nelson’s 3-2 win on opening night of the post season.

Karran’s teammate Cole Wyatt is tied for the Nelson scoring lead with one goal and three assists.

Tulsen Fawcett and Shawn Campbell each have two points as Nelson opened a 2-0 lead over Spokane Braves in the best-of-seven Murdoch Division Semi Final.

Game three of the series goes Friday in Spokane followed by Game four Saturday, also in the Lilac City.

Should the series need more games, Game five is scheduled for Monday back in Nelson with Game six in Spokane, Tuesday.

A Game Seven would be played Wednesday in Nelson.

Winning on and off the ice

The Nelson Leafs have been a leading example on and off the ice.

On the heels of a highly successful Autism Awareness Campaign in February, the Leafs Hockey Club also stepped out to donate $1,000 to Nelson Friends of the Family prior to the opening faceoff of Game one Tuesday at the NDCC Arena.

Leaf President Corey Viala made the presentation to Friends of Family Chairperson Briana Gaudreau, Board members Linda Homeniuk and Pat Dooley.
