School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) is looking for a Secretary-Treasurer following the resignation announcement Michael McLellan.

In a media release Wednesday, Kootenay Lake School Board Superintendent Trish Smillie said she has accepted McLellan’s resignation effective February 1, 2022.

McLellan, who has been with Kootenay Lake School District for the past four years, has accepted a position with School District 10 (Arrow Lakes).

“(I want to) extend sincere best wishes for Michael and his family,” Smille said in the media release.

Board chair Lenora Trenaman echoed those thoughts.

“(Michael) McLellan’s leadership has resulted in the district being highly accountable in its financial management and is in a positive standing to make well-informed budgetary decisions,” Trenaman said.

McLellan also gave thanks for his time with the district.

“I would like to express my immense gratitude to School District No.8 for the opportunity to work in such a fine organization, serving students and families of the West Kootenay region.,” he said.

“This change will bring a new career challenge for me, and also allow my family to pursue other opportunities that have arisen.”

The district will now begin a Canada-wide search to choose McLellan’s successor.
