Three fishermen were rescued Sunday by Search and Rescue after being stranded overnight on Kootenay Lake.

South Columbia Search and Rescue said the three men in their late 40s were not injured and were located Sunday morning.

“South Columbia’s Jet boat located the three overdue fisherman late this morning all in good health and escorted them back to the boat launch with their watercraft for safety,” the South Columbia Search and Rescue Facebook page said.

“It was a cold breezy night and morning but they made it through,” the Facebook posted added.

“They had a small propane heater and food and water to make it through the night.”

South Columbia Search and Rescue received a call to assist from Kaslo Search and Rescue after occupants of a 16-foot boat were reported missing.

The trio, having to deal with overnight temperatures of -8C, were reported missing at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday to Kaslo Search and Rescue.

“Our marine and ground search teams were quickly deployed and with such a large search area to cover we were very grateful to receive mutual aid throughout the morning from Balfour Harrop Fire Rescue, South Columbia SAR and Castlegar SAR,” said Kaslo Search and Rescue.

“Thankfully the subjects were located about 7 a.m. after a very cold night on their boat.”
