A Saskatchewan man was taken into custody following a report of an assault in the Rosemont area last month Nelson Police said in a media release Monday.

Nelson Police said Eldon Lemaigre was arrested without incident inside Our Daily Bread on 500 Falls Street and now faces various charges in relation to the Rosemont assault.

Lemaigre, 40, is charged with Assault with a weapon, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Breach of his release conditions.

Police said the arrest was made after a man was assaulted in Rosemont a few days before.

“The male victim had been stuck in the head with what he believed to be a sock filled with rocks or a similar heavy object(s),” the media release said. “The victim informed police that the male suspect also tried to stab him prior to fleeing the residence.”

Police said Lemaigre, who is not well known to NPD but has an extensive history of violent behavior in several provinces including BC and Saskatchewan, was identified as the person allegedly involved in the assault.

NPD received information that allowed police to locate Lemaigre at Our Daily Bread, a non-profit society that provides a hot lunch program.

Police said due to Lemaigre’s concerning violent history all NPD members on shift responded with the assistance of Nelson RCMP.

“After the building was safely contained by police, Lemaigre was located inside and arrested without incident,” the media release said.

Police said Lemaigre was also found to have several warrants from the Lower Mainland. Lemaigre was transported to Okanagan Correction Centre where he remains in custody.

NPD officers execute search warrant near Gyro Park

Nelson Police said officers executed a search warrant at a home in the Gyro Park area of Nelson on October 25, 2019.

Police said officers obtained an arrest and entry warrant for premises after a lengthy investigation into reports of drug activity at the home.

“A male and female, who are known to police, were arrested inside the home and a quantity of suspected cocaine and ketamine were located upon search,” the media release said.

Police said charges are being forwarding to crown of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking against the male arrested in the home.
