The Nelson Leafs suffered a power outage as the Fernie Ghostriders scored five times on the power play en route to a 7-1 trashing of the Green and White in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Friday night in the East Kootenay City.

Cole Wright had a goal and two assists while Scott Garneau checked in with four points, including a pair of goals, to pace the Riders.

Newcomer Dustin Johnson scored the lone goal for Nelson in the first period when the game was still close at 2-1.

Scott Morriseau, Connor Morgan, Mark Strachan and Alex Milton also scored for Fernie.

Fraser Abdaliah had an easy time in the Fernie nets, facing only 19 shots.

The Nelson duo of Darren Hogg and Marcus Beesley were much busier as the Riders fired 39 shots at the Leaf cage.

Nelson, 19-16-0-1, third in the Murdoch Division, continues its road swing through the Eddie Mountain Division tonight in Golden against the Rockets. The road trip concludes Sunday in Columbia Valley against the Rockets.

The Ghostriders improve to 32-5-0-2, now lead Creston Valley by 20 points in the Eddie Mountain pack.
