The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary has added 25 more properties on evacuation alert in the Lynch Creek area of the Granby River Valley on Wednesday, August 15.

This decision, announced Wednesday in a RDKB media release, means a total of 80 addresses or close to 200 people are now on evacuation alert in the RDKB.

Below are notes on some fires of interest in the region:

  • Lynch Creek – Granby River north of Grand Forks: 50 hectares (ha) in size.  Significant fire activity observed yesterday, as predicted by Southeast Fire Centre.  25 addresses on North Fork Road on alert.  Lynch Creek Forest Service Road is closed to general public.  Heavy helicopters took action on this fire yesterday.  Challenging area due to the amount of blow down in the area.
  • Toronto Creek – Granby River north of Grand Forks:  11 ha in size.  Heavy equipment and helicopters working.  22 addresses on evacuation alert. 70% contained.
  • Horns Mountain and Big Sheep Creek – 353 and 10 ha in size, respectively.  Crews and helicopters working.  Challenging terrain and heavy timber.  33 addresses in Big Sheep Creek and Santa Rosa on evacuation alert.  A FireBoss aircraft executed a hard landing onto a forest service road at this fire last night and the pilot walked away without major injuries.
  • Kettle River – 5 km south of Midway. 21 ha in size.  10% contained.  Washington Department of Natural Resources fighting this fire with BC Wildfire Service assistance.  Significant activity last night.  110 personnel on site fighting this fire.
