RCMP warn of cougar attack on Granger Road on Nelson's North Shore area

Nelson RCMP aree advising residents in the Granger Road area on the North Shore (approximately 10 kilometers north of Nelson) to be on the lookout for a cougar.

Cpl. Michael Stefani said in a media release a cougar attacked and carried off an owner’s 10-week-old Rottweiler puppy.

“The attack happened just 10 feet from the residence and the cougar did not appear to be afraid of the owner yelling at it,” Stefani said.

Stefani said Cst. Schellenberg from Nelson RCMP attended the area and conducted a search however the cougar was not located.    

“RCMP would like to make residence of the Granger Road/Northshore area aware of the cougar for the safety of their family’s and for that of their animals,” Stefani explained.

He said conservation officers have been advised and will also be looking into the matter further.
